Origin story

A coffee with generations behind every pick.

The Elixir comes from Jorge Villantro's award-winning family farm in Huehuetenango, in Guatemala's western highlands. The local indigenous pickers have perfected their craft over generations, and part of every purchase goes back to their community. Open each step below to follow The Elixir from the farm to your cup.

The Elixir bag with a jar of its beans

3rd generation

Award-winning producer

Jorge is a third-generation, award-winning producer and a cornerstone of his community. He and his family have also helped build the region, partnering with neighbors to bring running water and electricity up to the mountain peaks. The farm works with the local indigenous community, whose pickers have perfected their technique over generations, and provides them free services and support so those traditions can continue.

1,500–1,900 m

12–25 °C on the farm

The Elixir grows at 1,500 to 1,900 meters in Huehuetenango, where temperatures range from 12 to 25 °C. Cooler air at this height slows how fast the cherries ripen, and that slower ripening is a big part of why high-grown coffee tastes brighter and more layered. Here it shows up as The Elixir's bright acidity.

Natural

Sun-dried Caturra

The Elixir is Caturra, an Arabica cultivar, and it's a natural: the whole cherry is dried in the sun with the fruit still around the bean. Drying in the fruit lets its sweetness settle into the seed, which gives The Elixir its wide body under the chocolate, herbs and tea.

Every bag

Funds community initiatives

Economic pressure has led many of the community's men to leave for better pay in the United States, leaving homes without fathers and husbands. A portion of every purchase of The Elixir goes directly to initiatives working to reduce that gap and strengthen the community.

Baltimore

Roasted here

The Elixir arrives as green coffee and is roasted here in Baltimore, with our packaging sourced in Baltimore too: we're a Baltimore-first business. Roasting here supports local coffee shops, and every bag ships in eco-conscious packaging under strict delivery standards. Restaurants, bars and shops can carry it too, as green or roasted coffee.

What people say about Naga’s Charm Coffee

Alex Quach

“I purchased some roasted coffee beans and I can say the coffee I made was fantastic, I usually go to Starbucks for my daily coffee but I'm going to stay home and use my coffee maker with this brand to save money, for an even better taste.”

“Where do you start when you have so many great coffee choices to try... well you try them all. Naga's Charm Coffee is exceptional and after working for 5 years in the coffee industry I developed a palette that is spoiled. That same palette is no longer thirsty since finding NCC and now I can't wait till the weekends when I usually brew my coffee.”

Questions

Where does this coffee come from?

Jorge Villantro's award-winning family farm in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, grown at 1,500 to 1,900 meters.

What does the flavor actually taste like?

Chocolate up front, with herbs and tea, a wide body and a bright acidity.

Where does my purchase go?

A portion of every purchase goes to initiatives that support the farm's indigenous community, where many families have lost fathers and husbands to work in the United States.

Which grind should I choose?

Whole bean keeps it fresher longer and is the better choice if you grind at home. Without a grinder, pick the grind that matches how you brew.

How should I store it?

Sealed, away from light and heat, at room temperature. Skip the freezer: the moisture swings do more harm than good.
