Origin story

Luwak coffee, washed clean and dried in the Bali sun.

Kopi luwak takes its name from the luwak, the Asian palm civet. The civet eats ripe coffee cherries and passes the beans, which are collected, washed and dried before roasting. Bali Bliss is luwak Robusta from 1,400 to 1,500 meters on the island of Bali. Open each step below to follow it from Bali to your cup.

Indonesia

Island of Bali

Bali is a volcanic island in Indonesia, one of the world's largest coffee-producing countries. Bali Bliss grows in the island's highlands, where the air stays cool, around 11 °C.

1,400–1,500 m

Bali highlands

Bali Bliss grows at 1,400 to 1,500 meters, high for Robusta, which is usually grown lower down. Cooler air at this height slows how fast the cherries ripen, giving the beans more time to develop flavor.

Luwak

Asian palm civet

The luwak, or Asian palm civet, eats ripe coffee cherries. The fruit is digested and the beans pass through, and they're then collected for processing. This is what makes kopi luwak one of the most unusual coffees in the world.

Washed

Then dried in the sun

The collected beans are fully washed, then laid out to dry in the sun. Washing leaves a clean cup, and Robusta's fuller body carries the nutmeg, peanuts and cherries.

Baltimore

Roasted here

Bali Bliss arrives as green coffee and is roasted here in Baltimore, with our packaging sourced in Baltimore too: we're a Baltimore-first business. Roasting here supports local coffee shops, and every bag ships in eco-conscious packaging under strict delivery standards. Restaurants, bars and shops can carry it too, as green or roasted coffee.

“I purchased some roasted coffee beans and I can say the coffee I made was fantastic, I usually go to Starbucks for my daily coffee but I'm going to stay home and use my coffee maker with this brand to save money, for an even better taste.”

“Where do you start when you have so many great coffee choices to try... well you try them all. Naga's Charm Coffee is exceptional and after working for 5 years in the coffee industry I developed a palette that is spoiled. That same palette is no longer thirsty since finding NCC and now I can't wait till the weekends when I usually brew my coffee.”

Questions

Where does this coffee come from?

The highlands of Bali, Indonesia, grown at 1,400 to 1,500 meters.

What does the flavor actually taste like?

Nutmeg and peanuts, with a sweet note of cherries and a very mild acidity.

What is luwak coffee?

Coffee whose cherries have been eaten by the luwak, the Asian palm civet. The beans pass through, then are collected, washed and dried before roasting.

What is Robusta?

Coffee's second major species after Arabica. It's hardier, and it typically brews with more body and more caffeine.

Which grind should I choose?

Whole bean keeps it fresher longer and is the better choice if you grind at home. Without a grinder, pick the grind that matches how you brew.

How should I store it?

Sealed, away from light and heat, at room temperature. Skip the freezer: the moisture swings do more harm than good.
