Origin story

Grown in the highlands, shaped by the mountain.

Huila sits in southern Colombia, a department of green ridges and river valleys, home to Nevado del Huila, the country's third-highest peak. Its coffee is distinctive enough that Huila earned an official Denomination of Origin in 2013. Open each step below to follow Dragon's Mane from Santa María to your cup.

18%

Of Colombia's coffee, per the FNC

This lot comes from Santa María, a town in northern Huila, not far from the departmental capital of Neiva. Most Colombian coffee is grown on small family-owned farms; the national coffee federation (FNC) and regional cooperatives run shared warehouses and dry mills so small lots like these can reach export markets. Colombia is the world's second-largest producer of Arabica.

1,500–1,600 m

Santa María, northern Huila

Dragon's Mane grows at 1,500 to 1,600 meters. Cooler air at this height slows how fast the cherries ripen, and that slower ripening is a big part of why high-grown coffee tastes brighter and more layered. Here it shows up as a bright note of candied lemon.

June–August

Caturra and Castillo

This offering was harvested June to August, from two Arabica cultivars, Caturra and Castillo. Ripe cherries are picked each harvest, then pulped and washed.

Washed

Then mechanically dried

The ripe cherries are pulped and fully washed, then dried in a mechanical dryer. Removing the fruit before drying gives a cleaner, brighter cup than a natural, and lets the fruit notes speak. The lot is graded Excelso EP: beans too large to pass a 14/64-inch screen, sorted to a low defect count (European Preparation).

Baltimore

Roasted here

Dragon's Mane travels as green coffee in sealed GrainPro liner bags that protect its freshness, and is roasted here in Baltimore, with our packaging sourced in Baltimore too: we're a Baltimore-first business. Roasting here supports local coffee shops, and every bag ships in eco-conscious packaging under strict delivery standards. Restaurants, bars and shops can carry it too, as green or roasted coffee.

What people say about Naga’s Charm Coffee

Alex Quach

“I purchased some roasted coffee beans and I can say the coffee I made was fantastic, I usually go to Starbucks for my daily coffee but I'm going to stay home and use my coffee maker with this brand to save money, for an even better taste.”

“Where do you start when you have so many great coffee choices to try... well you try them all. Naga's Charm Coffee is exceptional and after working for 5 years in the coffee industry I developed a palette that is spoiled. That same palette is no longer thirsty since finding NCC and now I can't wait till the weekends when I usually brew my coffee.”

Questions

Where does this coffee come from?

Santa María, a town in northern Huila, Colombia, near the capital Neiva, grown at 1,500 to 1,600 meters.

What does the flavor actually taste like?

Bright and sweet: candied lemon up front, a touch of pepper on the finish, with a medium body. Balanced and easy-drinking.

What does Excelso EP mean?

Excelso is a Colombian export grade for beans too large to pass through a 14/64-inch screen. EP, European Preparation, means the lot is sorted to a low defect count.

How should I brew it?

Drip and pour-over bring out its citrus, and it makes a bright, sweet espresso. Try it with breakfast pastries or lemon tarts.

Which grind should I choose?

Whole bean keeps it fresher longer and is the better choice if you grind at home. Without a grinder, pick the grind that matches how you brew.

How should I store it?

Sealed, away from light and heat, at room temperature. Skip the freezer: the moisture swings do more harm than good.
